Machine movements can cause steel, aluminium, wood or plastic plates to move. Contact noise is then transformed into air-borne noise via the sheet material. Light vibrations then occur, which we perceive as sound. Applying anti-drumming materials to one side of the sheet material increases their total mass. This then reduces the bothersome noise that you experience.
We make a distinction between:
- anti-drumming sheets (like Vibraflex)
- compounds (like Terophon)
- pastes (like Vibradamp).
The sheets are flexible and thin. Sometimes it’s advisable to apply a spray-on compound or paste to the surface, for example if the surface has an irregular shape or certain parts are hard to reach. If you want anti-drumming for very large surfaces, such as a vessel or a bridge, it may be important to reduce weight. In that case too, we recommend using a paste or compound.
