Folding doors in façade 150 kV transformer station

The 150kV transformer station in Arkel is part of the high-voltage grid in the South Holland Region. The station is the eastern end point of the Alblasserdam-Arkel connection. Joulz commissioned Merford Special Doors to produce a design for the replacement of two of the transformer installation façades. The old folding doors in these façades no longer complied with current requirements.

Insulation and safety

Functional requirements such as those drawn up by Joulz include a substantial improvement in the thermal insulation and sufficient shielding for the transformer installation. In addition, the solution needed to be easy to disassemble and relocate if large parts were exchanged or the entire transformer installation was to be replaced. It also had to be possible to leave the station via an escape door in the façades in the event of an emergency.

All-in solution

Merford Special Doors provided a turnkey solution, managing the entire process from the design, engineering and production to the delivery, assembly and commissioning of the façades. This included the disassembly of the existing folding doors. Once the old folding doors had been removed, the façades were built on a sub-frame, in which vertical and horizontal intermediate removable jambs were placed. Panels were then installed in this structure and an escape door opening onto a terrace. The partnership with Joulz produced the required result, to the satisfaction of the project team and the customer.
