Description

Impact noise can significantly affect comfort in buildings. Regupol Sound is a resilient underlay that effectively reduces impact noise beneath floating screeds. The underlay is supplied in rolls or panels made from polyurethane-bound rubber granulate, combining good acoustic performance with long-term resilience. Multiple variants are available, differing in thickness and load capacity to match project requirements. It is suitable for residential, hotel, office and other commercial applications.

Properties

Regupol Sound absorbs impact noise and also contributes to thermal insulation. The elastic material retains its shape under continuous load and prevents vibrations from transferring to the building structure. Its profiled underside ensures effective decoupling from the floor. Depending on the variant, the material can carry heavy loads and is resistant to ageing and moisture.

The range includes several variants:

  • Regupol Sound 12 – 17 mm thick underlay with profiled underside, designed for heavy floor loads. Provides weighted impact sound reduction of Rw = 31 dB (single layer) / Rw = 36 dB (double layer).
  • Regupol Sound 17 – 10 mm thick underlay for projects with moderate acoustic requirements and limited build height. Provides weighted impact sound reduction of Rw = 26 dB (single layer) / Rw = 30 dB (double layer).
  • Regupol Sound 47 – 8 mm thick underlay for low build-height situations, with weighted impact sound reduction of Rw = 22 dB.
Applications

Regupol Sound is installed beneath floating screeds on flat, dry and stable subfloors of concrete or timber. Selection of Sound 12, Sound 17 or Sound 47 depends on the required acoustic performance, maximum floor load and available build-up height. The system accommodates a wide range of floor finishes, including tiles, parquet or carpet, and is suitable for apartments, hotels, schools, offices and technical spaces.

Answers to common questions

Answers to the most common technical and practical questions.
How are Akoestikon panels installed?

The panels are modular and can be mounted on both walls and ceilings. Installation can be done directly onto the structure or via a frame. Thanks to their lightweight design and modular system, installation is fast and requires no major structural modifications.

What is the difference between vibration isolation, sound insulation, and sound absorption?
  • Vibration isolation reduces mechanical vibrations from machines or equipment, preventing transmission to the building structure or floor.
  • Sound insulation prevents sound from passing from one space to another, e.g., between rooms or to the exterior.
  • Sound absorption reduces echo and reverberation within a space by damping sound waves, improving comfort and speech intelligibility.

Merford materials can provide one or more of these effects depending on the product type, such as absorption panels for rooms or isolation around ventilation units.
