Description

Merfocell GW is a sound-absorbing panel made from open-cell polyurethane foam, featuring a woven fibreglass top layer that provides both decorative and protective qualities. This top layer protects the foam from oil, moisture, and mechanical damage, making it particularly suitable for applications that require durability alongside acoustic performance. The self-adhesive backing ensures easy installation and consistent performance in demanding technical environments.

Properties

Merfocell GW is available in a standard size of 1,200 × 1,000 mm and in thicknesses of 25 mm and 40 mm. The foam has a density of approximately 25 kg/m³, while the top layer is fire-retardant (FMVSS 302, UL94-HF1) and heat-resistant up to +160 °C.

Depending on thickness, the panel achieves a weighted sound absorption coefficient of up to αw = 0.80 (EN 354:2003). The woven fibreglass top layer provides long-lasting protection against water, oil, and mechanical wear, ensuring durability in intensive applications.

Applications

Merfocell GW is ideal for machine rooms on boats and yachts, as well as housings for compressors, generators, and vehicles. The panel combines effective sound absorption with fire safety and a protective surface finish. CE certification ensures compliance with regulated environments, making it a reliable solution for demanding technical applications.

Answers to common questions

Answers to the most common technical and practical questions.
Can the acoustic performance be predicted for a specific space?

Merford can perform acoustic analyses or simulations to predict noise levels and reverberation times based on material selection, room dimensions, and finishes, ensuring the right solution is designed.

How maintenance-friendly are these materials?

Our acoustic materials generally require minimal maintenance. Dusting and cleaning is usually sufficient to maintain long‑term performance.

What is the difference between vibration isolation, sound insulation, and sound absorption?
  • Vibration isolation reduces mechanical vibrations from machines or equipment, preventing transmission to the building structure or floor.
  • Sound insulation prevents sound from passing from one space to another, e.g., between rooms or to the exterior.
  • Sound absorption reduces echo and reverberation within a space by damping sound waves, improving comfort and speech intelligibility.

Merford materials can provide one or more of these effects depending on the product type, such as absorption panels for rooms or isolation around ventilation units.
