Aluglass
Weighted sound absorption coefficient up to αw = 0.60
Withstands temperatures up to approximately 250 °C
Lightweight and durable
Aluglass is a high-quality glass fibre fabric laminated with aluminium foil. It is used as a protective and sound-absorbing outer layer in acoustic constructions. The material combines strength, fire resistance and acoustic transparency, making it suitable for applications where both protection and sound performance are important.
The aluminium layer reflects heat, while the glass fibre base keeps its shape even at high temperatures. Aluglass is commonly used as a finishing layer for acoustic panels, ducts, insulation systems and technical enclosures. It provides a clean, professional finish and is resistant to wear, heat, dust, oil and moisture over a long time.
The material is fire tested according to IMO Res. MSC.40(64) and Class 1 DM 26.684 and can withstand temperatures up to around 250 °C.
Aluglass has a weighted sound absorption coefficient (αw) between 0.4 and 0.6, depending on how it is installed. The material remains acoustically transparent, so the performance of materials behind it (such as Akoestifoam, Merfodem or Merfocell) is not reduced. It has a thickness of 0.15 mm and a surface weight of about 170 g/m², making it strong but still light and easy to handle. It is supplied in rolls, which makes it easy to apply on panels, ducts and enclosures.
Aluglass is suitable as a finishing layer for sound-absorbing panels, silencers, ducts, technical enclosures and machine housings. It is widely used in industrial, marine and HVAC environments where both sound control and fire safety are important. It can also be combined with other acoustic materials to improve insulation or vibration performance.

Answers to common questions
Merford can perform acoustic analyses or simulations to predict noise levels and reverberation times based on material selection, room dimensions, and finishes, ensuring the right solution is designed.
Our acoustic materials generally require minimal maintenance. Dusting and cleaning is usually sufficient to maintain long‑term performance.
- Vibration isolation reduces mechanical vibrations from machines or equipment, preventing transmission to the building structure or floor.
- Sound insulation prevents sound from passing from one space to another, e.g., between rooms or to the exterior.
- Sound absorption reduces echo and reverberation within a space by damping sound waves, improving comfort and speech intelligibility.
Merford materials can provide one or more of these effects depending on the product type, such as absorption panels for rooms or isolation around ventilation units.
