Akotherm HLR
Made from 100% recycled polyester fibres
Sound‑absorbing and thermally insulating
Hypo‑allergenic, dust‑free and easy to cut to size
Akotherm HLR is a sustainable insulation material made from 100% recycled polyester fibres, repurposed from production waste. Its open-fibre structure provides both thermal insulation and basic sound absorption, making it ideal for filling walls, floors, ceilings and cavity spaces. While primarily intended for structural or cavity insulation, Akotherm HLR can also be used as infill in acoustic panels or interior constructions where both thermal and acoustic comfort are required.
It is lightweight and easy to handle. It resists moisture, oils and most common cleaning agents, and it can be fully recycled. This makes it a safe and environmentally friendly solution for many construction projects.
With a density of approximately 20 kg/m³, Akotherm HLR can be easily installed in cavities, between studs or within panel constructions. Its open-fibre structure contributes to both sound absorption and thermal insulation while maintaining shape and dimensions over time. Thermal performance is tested according to DIN 52612, Type D20, with a thermal conductivity of λ = 0.040 W/(m·K). The material can be cut to size using standard tools and fits easily into walls, floors and ceilings.
Akotherm HLR is ideal for cavity and hollow-wall insulation in both new-build and renovation projects. It is also suitable as infill in acoustic panels or interior constructions where combined thermal and acoustic performance is required. Its lightweight, easily cut structure allows flexible installation in walls, floors, ceilings and partition walls.

Answers to common questions
Merford can perform acoustic analyses or simulations to predict noise levels and reverberation times based on material selection, room dimensions, and finishes, ensuring the right solution is designed.
Our acoustic materials generally require minimal maintenance. Dusting and cleaning is usually sufficient to maintain long‑term performance.
- Vibration isolation reduces mechanical vibrations from machines or equipment, preventing transmission to the building structure or floor.
- Sound insulation prevents sound from passing from one space to another, e.g., between rooms or to the exterior.
- Sound absorption reduces echo and reverberation within a space by damping sound waves, improving comfort and speech intelligibility.
Merford materials can provide one or more of these effects depending on the product type, such as absorption panels for rooms or isolation around ventilation units.
