Description

The AKR 500 acoustic louvre combines high airflow capacity with effective noise reduction in ventilation and façade applications. With a weighted sound reduction of up to Rw = 21 dB(A), it limits installation and environmental noise without restricting airflow. The deep aerodynamic louvre profile minimises pressure loss, even at higher air velocities, while the internal high-density acoustic infill ensures stable performance. Its customisable design allows for tailored dimensions and finishes.

Properties

The AKR 500 is manufactured from galvanised or stainless steel and finished with a durable powder coating for long-term corrosion resistance in outdoor environments. The internal acoustic infill is moisture- and weather-resistant and maintains performance under changing conditions. The 100 mm louvre opening supports efficient ventilation capacity. It is available with a flange or angle frame for straightforward installation, or without a flange for integration into existing openings. Optional accessories, such as bird mesh, filters or protective grilles, are available depending on project requirements.

All AKR 500 louvres are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001-standards.

Applications

The AKR 500 louvre is used in façade openings, ventilation ducts, air handling units, plant rooms and industrial enclosures. It can be installed vertically or horizontally and integrated into walls or air intake and exhaust systems. Its customisable design makes it suitable for both new-build and renovation projects where high airflow, durable construction and reliable noise control are required.

Answers to common questions

Answers to the most common technical and practical questions.
How do grilles affect airflow in HVAC systems?

Merford louvers are aerodynamically designed to minimize pressure drop and guide airflow efficiently. This ensures ventilation performance remains high even at increased airflow.

Are the grilles resistant to weather conditions such as rain, sun, and frost?

Yes. The frame and blades are made from galvanized or stainless steel with durable coatings, and the internal fill is moisture‑ and weather‑resistant, ensuring consistent performance under varying weather conditions.

What is the difference between AKR and AIR grilles and louvres?

AKR louvers are mainly designed for sound attenuation and ventilation. AIR louvers combine acoustic performance with additional safety features, such as fire resistance and burglary resistance (RC class), making them suitable for critical or secured environments.
