Merfisol
Weighted sound reduction index up to Rw = 27 dB
Flexible sheet for straight and curved runs
Ideal for renovation and visible installations
Merfisol is a flexible insulation panel designed to reduce noise from rainwater pipes, sewage pipes, and various service lines while also providing thermal insulation. The panel consists of a 2 mm heavy polymer mass layer, a reinforced aluminium foil front layer, and an 8 mm resilient ALU foam backing layer. This layered construction combines mass for sound insulation with a flexible backing that acoustically decouples the material from the pipe surface. Merfisol is highly flexible, making it easy to wrap around both straight and curved pipes, while the aluminium finish provides a clean, dent-resistant surface.
Merfisol panels provide good sound reduction with a weighted value (Rw) of about 27 dB for the standard aluminium-coated version. The combination of a heavy layer and flexible foam also helps to reduce heat loss, so the product also provides thermal insulation. Standard panels measure 1,000 × 2,000 mm. They have a total thickness of 10 mm (2 mm mass layer + 8 mm foam) and weigh about 4.7 kg per m². Merfisol is fire-retardant tested and suitable for use in buildings.
Merfisol is ideal for reducing pipe noise and preventing thermal bridges in PVC drainage pipes, rainwater downpipes, service shafts, air ducts, and ventilation trunk lines. Its flexibility and reinforced aluminium layer allow for easy installation, including in renovation projects, and it is suitable for visible applications requiring a neat finish. Merfisol is a specialised product for pipes and ducts and is not intended for wall or floor insulation.

Answers to common questions
Merford can perform acoustic analyses or simulations to predict noise levels and reverberation times based on material selection, room dimensions, and finishes, ensuring the right solution is designed.
Our acoustic materials generally require minimal maintenance. Dusting and cleaning is usually sufficient to maintain long‑term performance.
- Vibration isolation reduces mechanical vibrations from machines or equipment, preventing transmission to the building structure or floor.
- Sound insulation prevents sound from passing from one space to another, e.g., between rooms or to the exterior.
- Sound absorption reduces echo and reverberation within a space by damping sound waves, improving comfort and speech intelligibility.
Merford materials can provide one or more of these effects depending on the product type, such as absorption panels for rooms or isolation around ventilation units.
