Operator Cabins
A pleasant temperature, clean air and especially a good sitting posture during work. Unfortunately these principles are not always a matter of course for cabin operators, even though a healthy work environment is of the utmost importance. Too often, crane operators contend with extreme fatigue, concentration problems and chronic neck and back problems. At Merford we believe that everyone, anywhere in the world, is entitled to a safe and comfortable workplace.

A special work environment
A cabin is a special workplace. For years we have delved into the work conditions of crane operators. We frequently observe their work, conduct surveys among them and especially listen well to their wishes, complaints and suggestions for improvement. Every detail in our cabins counts: ranging from the synchronised movement of arm rests to provide improved ergonomics, to optimal visibility, clean air and responsible sound and vibration levels. By paying attention to every detail and every specific wish, we enable operators to work with greater enjoyment and efficiency. In many instances the use of our cabins translates into a demonstrable decrease in absence due to illness and into higher operator productivity.
Reliable partner
Each cabin can be fully designed to meet your wishes, and of course, our cabins meet all legal requirements. In addition, we often closely work with the end-user, the crane manufacturer and the supplier of control systems, in a team setting. In this triangle, we are a valued and reliable partner who provides advice where necessary, guarantees high quality and delivers on time. If you are curious about our cabins and their ergonomic layout, we would be pleased to tell you more!

It is almost impossible to overlook Sennebogen’s cranes. Thanks to their distinctive green colour, you know right away that you are dealing with a Sennebogen crane. Their cabins also stand out, partly because of the contrasting color and contemporary layout. Some of Sennebogen’s cranes are fitted with a cabin from Merford, depending on the crane types and customer’s wishes. This has been the standard since the late nineties, to the satisfaction of Sennebogen and the end customers.
Barge Master / Bosch RexrothBarge Master is a supplier of motion compensation systems for the offshore industry. The Next Generation Gangway is the company's latest innovation. The system transfers people from a ship to, for example, offshore wind turbines or platforms. The machine compensates wave motion, and at the same time stabilizes the gangway for people walking over it. The gangway is also applicable as a crane for light loads. The unique open control unit of the gangway was designed and produced by Merford Cabins, in extensive consultation with Barge Master and Bosch Rexroth.
Burg EquipmentPeinemann Equipment supplies machines which clean tube bundles for petrochemical companies. Some types of machine are assembled by the company Burg Equipment. In order to clean the bundles properly, water at a pressure of maximum 1500 bar is sprayed into the pipes. The hard jet of water and the chemical substances released can be dangerous for the operator of the machine. The cabin manufactured by Merford protects the operator from these.
Public Power CorporationDimosia Epichirisi Ilektrismou (Public Power Corporation) is the largest electric power company in Greece. One of the sources used to generate electricity is the coal mine at an excavation site in the Greek region of Western Macedonia. One of the stacker cranes here is being refurbished. This includes the replacement of the cabins. Merford was contracted to supply two cabins and was asked to carefully listen to the operators’ requirements.
OBA - Bulk Terminal AmsterdamOBA is a transhipment port for bulk goods in Amsterdam. The company has a terminal in the Netherlands’ capital city’s western docks (Westelijk Havengebied). One of the 60-ton quay cranes was manufactured by Chinese crane construction company ZPMC. OBA decided to improve several features on the crane, such as the layout of the front of the cabin to improve all-round vision, and the operator’s chair in the middle of the cabin. Merford Cabins manufactured a bay window with an ergonomic operator’s chair that has now replaced the front of the cabin.
