A ship is in fact a world on its own. People live and work here day and night for extended periods of time, especially on large working ships and container ships. Providing for a safe and comfortable working and living environment on ships and yachts is fortunately receiving increasing priority. For example, the crew quarters and the navigation bridges today are required to comply with acceptable noise and vibration levels. Merford offers various solutions that enhance the well-being and effectiveness of people on ships.

            Safe and ergonomic cabins
Merford Cabins supplies cabins and navigation rooms specifically developed for maritime conditions. For example, a special preservation method is used to treat cabins against rust and salt deposits, the glazing is given a special coating and climate control is a key area of focus. Our cabins are equipped with functional and exceptionally ergonomic controls as standard features, while at the same time they have been designed and manufactured in accordance with applicable standards.

Noise control on working ships and luxury yachts
Due to changing regulations, the need to control sound on working ships is becoming increasingly more important. This is true for work areas and especially the crew quarters. Whether the noise originates from vibrations, a noisy ventilation system or the noise reflecting from the acoustically hard walls in the engine room, we have an IMO-certified solution to the problem. Aside from noise reduction, weight is also a key consideration in the luxury yacht building industry . People want to move faster while consuming the least possible fuel. We are able to achieve weight savings of up to 600 percent by using sound insulating materials such as Soliboard and Flamex.

            Access Engineering
Ship doors must comply with special requirements. Merford Special Doors supplies fire-resistant and explosion-safe doors especially designed for high-risk situations on a ship. Furthermore, doors for crew quarters and machine rooms, for example, also meet the noise standard.

In 2014, Merford supplied a cabin to Boskalis for its Manu Pekka dredger. In 2014 and 2015, a new backhoe dredger was installed on the ship and Merford was asked to develop an operator cabin for this crane. This type of crane is normally used in the mining sector. Therefore, a standard cabin was not an option. Merford produced a cabin that improves the crane’s dredging performance and also equipped the cabin with several useful extras.
